As well as standard CNC machine tooling, we also invest in bespoke tooling to meet the requirements of our customers. We recently acquired a carbide anti vibration boring bar and custom tool holder to manufacture a batch of large steel bushes.

What is a boring bar?

A boring bar is a tool that is used to enlarge a hole that has already been drilled (or cast). It

comprises of a body, bar holder and dial screw which can be used to adjust the cutting tool.

Boring is used to achieve greater accuracy of the diameter of a hole and can be used to cut a tapered hole. Hole accuracy is important for parts such as firearm barrels or engine cylinders.

Bespoke Boring Bar

We invested in a carbide anti vibration boring bar and custom tool holder for precision boring of a new part. Boring bars are usually connected to the CNC machine holder with 2 pins. Instead, the custom tool holder clamps onto the diameter of the bar for a secure fit.

The bespoke boring bar solution enabled us to manufacture a low volume requirement of steel bushes with the desired bored diameter and surface finish for a precision fit.
